Caixa Benicarló chose the theme «Traditional Games» for its 2018 calendar. To connect with this theme, in addition to proposing handmade illustrations, we vary the position of the calendar each month, which concerns the passage of time. We wanted to project a bit of playfulness in the layout, in addition to a careful dose of illustrations, which were developed to maintain unity and flexibility throughout the calendar.
The drawing of each scene is handmade and combined with cut-out cardboard, and other «traditional» resources were digitally mixed. The client gave us total freedom in this project; his only condition was that the numbers were large, and there was space to write. We take advantage of this condition to justify the displacement of the calendar each month and to integrate it into the illustration. To keep each illustration clean and simple, we put text for each game on the back page, allowing the user to focus on those details separately.
