About
I am Sergio Naranjo, award-winning Art Director, Graphic Designer and Illustrator; with a rich international background, currently working as a freelance in Benicarló (Valencia, Spain).
Even before I graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Universidad de Costa Rica, I’ve been working for the last 25 years in some of the most important advertising agencies, both in Costa Rica, as in Spain and the Czech Republic, such as Havas, DDB, Ogilvy, Grey, McCann-Erickson, amongst others.
During that time, I’ve been working in several team or solo projects with a wide variety of clients, in different categories ranging from editorial, automotive, entertainment, leisure, drinks and food, retailers, finance services, etc. My involvement in such projects has required the deployment of different skills, such as conceptualization, strategy, graphic design, illustration, art/creative direction, copywriting, as well as the direction of interdisciplinary teams in other areas such as photography, film-making, illustration, animation, etc. All of which had been delivered as audiovisual productions for television or online, printed works for outdoors and indoors, radio, events, and other media.
Over the years, I’ve worked for this brands: Unilever, Nestlé, Peugeot, Volvo, Renault, Cadbury Addams, Century 21, Jack Daniels, Generali, Móndelez Intl, amongst many more.
Throughout my career, I have had the honor of seeing my work awarded at various creativity festivals, in all the markets where they were published; such as El Pregonero and Volcán de Oro (Costa Rican’s Advertising Awards), FIAP (Ibero-American Festival of Advertising, Argentina), Festival Caribe (Caribbean Region Creativity Festival, Panamá), La Lluna Valenciana (Creative Festival of Valencia, Spain), or Louskáček (Czech Creative Awards).
Some of my work has been shown in solo or collective exhibitions in Costa Rica, Bolivia, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy, Cyprus, Turkey, England, USA, etc. They have also been published in the prestigious Lürzer’s Archive advertising magazine.
Recently, my posters and conceptual designs has been shortlisted for the Poster Bienal in Bolivia for a couple of editions in a row, and won first place at the Graphic Stories Cyprus Poster Contest, a global showcase for that discipline.
Last year my work also earned recognition from the prestigious committee of Italian illustrators “Tapirulan”, appearing in their 2022 annual book on the theme “stop”.
